Dr. Faleh Ali

Dr. Faleh worked as the assistant for Policy to the Minister of Health for 9 years, at the Supreme Council of Health (SCH), Qatar’s highest health authority. He guided national planning for health facilities, services and workforce. He is also was responsible for policies on health financing, quality, patient safety, cancer, e-health, facility licensing, and research governance. He oversaw the implementation of the projects in the National Health Strategy 2011-2016, and personally lead the implementation of 13 of the 40 projects.

Dr. Faleh also worked for 3 years as Acti ng Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Company, a government-owned private company responsible for the implementation and administration of Seha, the National Health Insurance Scheme. In addition to his dual leadership position, Dr. Faleh served on severalgovernmental boards and advisory committees. He was appointed Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners, an arm’s-length body established to consolidate the licensing of health professionals. He helds similar posts in the fields of education, statistics, demography, humanitarian law, sports and information technology.

He also served as a board member in the board of directors of Malomatia, an IT company owned by Qatar Investment Authority. He is a partner in several established companies and has established two startups as an individual.

Dr. Faleh has a strong academic interest. He is Visiting Lecturer and Doctoral Candidate on health financing at Imperial College London. He is author of a number of peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. He served on academic and scientific advisory groups at Qatar University, Qatar Foundation, and Imperial College London.

Prior to turning to administration, he held health management posts for over a decade. He led the commissioning of the Cuban Hospital as its Chief Executive Officer from 2009-2012. For around ten years prior, he held executive posts at Hamad General, Rumailah and the Psychiatric Hospitals. He holds a Master of Science in Health Management, from the Tanaka Business School, Imperial College Londonand is a PhD candidate at Imperial College London department of medicine.

After graduating from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1993 with a bachelor degree in Medicine, he began his career as a clinician working for around ten years as an orthopedic surgeon and emergency physician at Hamad General Hospital, Qatar’s largest hospital.

Dr. Faleh is characterised by a strong commitment to community engagement. For many years he volunteered in medical affairs and international relief with the Qatar Red Crescent Society, a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
